Tim Wellings – Project Curacao
God brought me from death to life in the fall of 2008. The summer before I had nearly died in a motorcycle accident and from that moment on I hungered for truth to my existence. I took a world religions class that fateful autumn to survey the traditional answers the world had to offer while also reading the Bible on the side. Those words of Holy Scripture took hold of me, and spoke to me in a way I could barely understand. From that moment on, I knew I would make it my life’s purpose to seek after the truth contained in God’s word.
Since that time, God has grown me exponentially and helped me understand His ways. I attended four previous undergraduate schools while also being a ski lift operator, beach bum, and vagabond before finally landing at Moody Bible Institute – Spokane, where God has showered me with knowledge and tools to dig even deeper. I also picked up a beautiful wife along the way as well as my nephew (who we are in the process of adopting) and my child (who we are awaiting eagerly). Through it all, I have come to realize the joys of sharing about God’s ways, and I now recognize that God has given me a passion to teach in whatever capacity is available.
I have jut recently graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Bible degree and I hope to continue on to graduate work in theology of some sort. I hope to get in as much studying as is reasonable and then head out to the mission field to teach where there is a shortage of teachers.
However, this assumed far-off future may be much nearer than I anticipated in the form of an opportunity in Curacao, a small island off the coast of Venezuela. I and two other Aqueduct scholars, Kevin Illidge and Brian Donelly-Lewis, went down and taught Bible and theology classes at a church last summer with much success. I am now planning on going back to Curacao to teach at the same church in November of 2015 with hopes of expanding the summer institute to reach more people.
It all seems too good to be true to me, but I know all we must do is keep our eyes on the Lord and simply follow. I am just excited to see how we can help and where He takes us.
