Arturo Morales – Project Cuba
Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It was February 16, 1959, when Fidel Castro declared himself the Prime Minister of Cuba. During the next eleven years that my grandparents felt oppression by Communist Party. It was May of 1970 that my grandfather persuaded my grandmother to leave Cuba in order to raise their children in a better society. Ten years later, in 1980, they became American Citizens. My brother and my cousin and I are the first Cuban-Americans in my family to be born in America. I grew up hearing stories of Cuba, and I have a deeply rooted Cuban culture inside of me.
Now getting an education at Moody Bible Institute, I have a desire to use what I have learned there to teach in Cuba. With the help of Aqueduct Project (www.aqueductproject.org), I have the desire to travel to Cuba and teach pastors the Word of God, since Communism dictates the educational system in Cuba.
In 2008, Fidel Castro became very ill and gave his power to Raúl, and Raúl has made it clear that he is determined to change the culture. On April 11, 2015, President Obama met with Raúl Castro—the first meeting between the Cuban Prime Minister and the US President in more than 50 years. Raúl is opening the door for missionaries of all religions to enter Cuba in order to establish churches there. This is the perfect opportunity for the real Gospel to enter the country and to begin establishing a strong foundation for Cuba. Cuba needs trained pastors.
I have desire to go to Cuba because the book of Romans inspires me. The majority of Romans speaks about justification by Faith; it is by God’s grace that humankind is saved. However, it is through believing in Jesus Christ that the Christians are saved. In other words, justification by faith, and this is repeated theme throughout Romans. Yet, in Romans there is a particular verse that speaks to me the most. Roman 9:3 states “For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.” Paul was willing to exchange his right to enter the kingdom of heaven, for the possibility of saving his Jewish brothers and sisters. I desire the same love for the people in Cuba. I know for many years the Cuban government has oppressed the Cuban people. This oppression has been revealed physically and mentally throughout my family. Therefore, I desire to go to Cuba to bring the good news of Jesus Christ and to start a school to teach local pastor the word of God. In addition, will you keep me in your prayers? Also if you can support this ministry financially, please designate your gift for Cuba Project and send your tax deductible donation to P.O. Box 150791, Grand Rapids, MI 49515 USA. Thank you for your love, prayers, time and investment in the church in Cuba.
